About Us

Barton Leavitt, Alberta businessmen, rancher, and owner of Taurus Salt, Ltd of Cardston has announced that its new manufacturing facility in South Central Utah is in production with a full line of livestock supplement products including a unique new product called the Natural Trace Mineral Block.  This new product will be available from dealers of Taurus Salt in western Canada and from dealers of Redmond Minerals, Inc throughout the U.S.

This livestock salt block is the first of its kind compressed from the much-touted pure natural rock salt from the nearby Redmond mine.  The Redmond Real sea salt has long been a favorite for the dinner table and will now be available with the same benefits for agricultural livestock. This natural sea salt was deposited millions of years ago in ancient seas and was naturally protected from pollutants.  The 50 or so helpful trace minerals in this salt composition make it superior to many other processed salt livestock blocks. In addition to the natural rock salt Block, the new Taurus Salt facility will produce a full-line of popular mineral fortified livestock blocks such as cobalt, selenium, trace mineral as well as medicine-fortified and other special order formulas.

Barton Leavitt envisions this plant investment as filling an important gap in the ever-changing livestock supplement market.

The new plant features a specially designed press which compresses 50 lbs (about 5 gallons) of granular salt into an 8 inch square block with 750 tons of force.  In full production, this press is capable of producing about 3000 salt blocks or 75 tons of blocks per day.

Taurus Salt, Ltd, has been a major player in the Alberta Livestock Supplement business since 1952.
